Another Wild tusker found dead in Udalguri (Assam)

The decomposed body of a wild tusker was found at a place called Phuljharbon near section No 21 (A) of Majuli TE under Harisinga Revenue Circle in Udalguri district on July 17.This has the case of 15th serial death of wild elephants in the district since 2009.Dr. Durlav Sarma,VAS,of Pachim Patla State Veterinary Dispensary was called for the postmortem ;But due to the badly decomposed state of the body ;postmortem could not be performed. Eye witnesses said that the they had seen injury marks on the body of the elephant.

Ananta Bagh a nature loving people and CEO of Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society told this correspondent that it was time to take permanent actions so as to stop man-elephant conflict in the district. He added that if no actions were taken and encroachment on forest lands went on then
wild elephants would very soon disappear from Assam and NE region. Another nature activist remarked that repeated cases of elephant deaths in the tea gardens of the district had been alarming .According to him government must instruct tea gardens to take the responsibility of protecting wild elephants and other wild animals in their respective areas.
