Silver jubilee celebration of Bishnu-jyoti cultural group concludes at Kalaigaon




The silver jubilee celebration of Bishnu-Jyoti cultural group,which was established at Chengapather near Kalaigaon in 1985 came to an end on December 19. A few distinguished actors,actresses and singers of Assam attended the closing ceremony besides high ranking officials and scholars of the state.The silver jubilee celebration had started on December 17 at 9 am with the hoisting of the flag by Maheswar Boro,MLA,Kalaigaon followed by the release of the souvenir named “Mahiruh” edited by Hiren Deka.On the second day on December 18,various competitions were held for the children followed by a seminar on the life and thoughts of Jyotiprasad and Bishnu Rabha.The seminar was conducted by noted writer Idris Ali.Dr Surya Das,Asstt.Director AIR,Guwahati and Loknath Das attended the seminar as the invited speaker.At 2 pm noted singer Jiten Deka had an interactive session with the people which was conducted by Sat Ram Deka, secretary of Darrang Zilla Sahitya Parishad.A colorful

cultural procession marked the begining of the concluding days programme on December 19 at 10 am which was flagged off by Maheswar Boro,MLA,Kalaigaon.Noted singer Dr.Anima Choudhuri inagurated the open session at 2 pm which was presided over by Maheswar Boro,MLA,Kalaigaon.On the occasion she said that the cultural unity of Assam had suffered setbacks due to political and social misunderstanding among various ethnic groups of NE region.She also remarked that the so called speedy social changes could very much affect a few ethnic cultures of the region.Lovely Assamese actress Barakha Rani cheered the crowd by performing a Bihu dance in the tune of Dhol and Pepa.

Noted writer and Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district Thaneswar Malakar in his speech as the invited guest said that civilizations of the world had been lost;but not the cultural identity were never lost.Highlighting on the life and thought of both Jyotiprasad Agarwalla and Bishu Rabha,he said that both had in them brilliant qualities.According to him Bishnu Rabha had been a mathematician and physicists too,who could have given Assam much more in the field of culture and literature had he not been involved with so many activities.On the present day cultural life of Assamese society,he remarked that changes of taste had been seen in Assam,where cultural functions had to be arranged with police protection,otherwise of which unruly youths could have demaged the stage as well as the desks and benches shouting wild cries.
The open session was also addressed by noted singers namely-Khagen Mahanta,Archana Mahanta; actor Biju Phookan and his wife;Bishnu Rabha's son Prithvi Rabha;BTC EM, Lwmsrao Daimari; BTC MCLAs Jagadish Sarkar and Dandi ram Rabha;social worker Mukunda Ram Choudhuri; Tarun Azad Deka,secretary of the silver jubilee celebration committee anchored the proceedings of the day. A few distinguished singers namely-Khagen Mahanta,Archana Mahanta,Bibhu Ranjan Choudhuri,Pranita Baishya Medhi etc performed in the cultural programme in the evening which was inaugurated by DN Hazarika,Circle Officer Harisinga Revenue Circle,Tangla.
