Post poll violence in Darrang:1 killed in police firing and IEDs recovered

Although election passed off peacefully in Darrang ,situation turned to be tense next day on April 12 following the recovery of two powerful IED and death of one person in police firing at Dalanghat.In the first incident two powerful IEDs were recovered from the house of a lady named Bimala Baro,secretary VDP, near Kalaigaon College in the morning at 9 am.Police and Army told media persons that the lady had found two bombs wrapped in a gift packet in front of house in the morning.Police and Army personals from 2 Field Regiment rushed to the spot and prevented any loss or damage.Army bomb squad personals defused the boms later.
In another incident,Darrang police resorted to indiscriminate firing at Dalanghat killing one person in the morning of April 12.According to information,a group of unruly youths attacked and ransacked the shops belonging to the supporters of a particular political party in the evening on April 11 at Dalanghat Chouck.A huge protest rally was arranged on April 12 at 9 AM at Dalanghat Chouk,protesting the incident the previous day.They condemned police for their failure to protect people during assembly election.The mob turned violent and attacked police present there.Darrang police personals stationed at Dalanghat immediately started firing resulting death of one 26 years old student named Pankaj Deka,son of Raben Deka and a relative of TMC candidate Ramesh Chandra Deka of 65 Kalaigaon LAC.He was a TDC student of Burhinagar College.Another  boy Chakradhar Deka was also injured  in the firing but is out of danger.The incident has been strongly condemned by all sections of people irrespective of political parties.According to eye witnesses police could have controlled the situation by other means and firing was not necessary at all.Kumud Kalita,Deputy Commissioner,Darrang; GP Singh,IGP,Northern Range,(Assam Police);Bishnu Prasad Rabha, SP, Darrang,Dina Mani Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle etc visited the place in the evening.The DC Darrang has ordered ADC level inquiry in to the incident.
